Joseph Cornell (1903 - 1972) | |
|
Cornell created boxes and other containers in
which he displayed seemingly random objects. The containers were
seldom large and seem like museum artifacts.
Cornell Investigation 1 Collect personal objects in a shoe box, things which evoke personal memories or a history. Using shelves within the box, or hooks, lines and platforms, create a display case of these objects. Do not be afraid to 'decorate' the interior of the box with paint or collage - try not to be too precious but allow ideas to change about what should be in the box as the project develops. Cornell Investigation 2 As 1, but create the box for a celebrity or historical personality. Call it something like 'Tribute to...' and without allowing others to know the identity of the subject, ask for others to guess who it is, giving reasons.
