Tom Phillips' 'A Humament' (Thames and Hudson 1980) Tom Phillips' 'A Humament is a reworking of a Victorian novel 'A Human Document'. The original novel is reprinted in full complete with Phillips' reworking of the text - each page has been treated to highlight certain elements of the text: these elements then seem to suggest painted images the artist has added. Similarly a text (a page from a novel or poem) can be taken and, perhaps, blown up to A3. This is then used in a similar way. It is difficult to describe Phillips' work - a link to the work is included below.
